Arriving in Poznan

Poznań is among the five biggest cities in Poland, with 540,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Mid-west part of the country, easily available through the A2 (E 30) highway or by plane via international airport Poznań Ławica (POZ) offering direct connections with a range of European cities. If you don’t have a direct flight to Poznań you can easily fly to one of the international airports in Poland located nearby Warsaw (capital), Wrocław, Kraków, Gdańsk and then get to Poznań by train or by coach.

Currency

The currency used in Poland is the Polish złoty (PLN), approximate exchange rate is 4.2 PLN for 1 Euro, as of 1st April 2025. 1 złoty (zł) is subdivided into 100 grosz (gr).

Credit card payments are possible in practically all the shops and ticketing machines.

Public transport

Public transportation in Poznań is a recommended way to move around the city. The best option for the ESOP conference is to buy a 7-day ticket (50 PLN, available at ticket machines at most of the tram stops), valid for all tram lines and most of the bus lines.

Important: ticket bought at ticket machine must be validated inside of the vehicle.

There are also 24-hour tickets available (15 PLN).
Apart from the ticket machines, they can also be bought inside of the vehicle.

A 24-hour ticket validated between 20:00 on Friday and 24:00 on Saturday is also valid till 24:00 on Sunday (on all lines, except for tourist lines 0, 20, 100, and 102).

Hotels

The hotel nearest to the ESOP venue is the Mercure Hotel (20 Roosevelta Street, map)

More affordable hotels are also within a reasonable distance from the conference venue, along Swiety Marcin Street and close the the Old Market Square.

Car parkings in Poznań

When travelling by car, it is recommended to use the hotel parking. Parking spaces in the city are limited and rather expensive: 7 PLN per hour in the city centre, valid from 8:00 till 20:00, paid by coins in the parking meters. On Sundays, parking is free. Apart from the city parking spaces there are Park & Go parking areas:

Shops

Most shops in Poland are open from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. on the week days, shorter opening hours might be valid on Saturdays. On Sundays, most shops are closed. There is a widespread network of small grocery stores, “Żabka”, most of them open from 6 a.m. till 11 p.m. all week.
