ESOP XLIV

44th European Symposium on Occultation Projects
will be held in Poznań, Poland, 23 – 24 August 2025

The European Symposium on Occultation Projects (ESOP) is a annual scientific meeting organised by the International Occultation Timing Association/European Section (IOTA/ES).

It joins the community interested in stellar occultations phenomena, the field of observational astronomy which has recently seen a great development thanks to the Gaia astrometric mission.

This year’s symposium will be held in hybrid mode in Poznań, Poland’s fifth largest city, located in the midwest part of the country. Poznań is home to one of top Polish universities: Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU), with a strong research center of minor bodies of the solar system, the Astronomical Observatory Institute (AOI) of AMU. Participants will have the opportunity to see the Institute’s research instruments, both historic and modern ones.

As a traditional part of the ESOP, after the conference the additional trips will be offered, both in the historic city centre and the surroundings, with its beautiful lakes, gardens, and castles. Poznań boasts up with a meteorite crater reserve (Morasko Meteorite Nature Reserve) within the city limits, with recent 300-kg iron meteorite finds.

We will be glad to see you in Poznań in person, but an free on-line participation via Zoom will also be offered after earlier registration.
